AI royal family photo, Kate Middleton conspiracy, and the truth

Kensington Palace shared a royal family photo, hoping to calm Kate Middleton conspiracy theories about her. But the same photo causes bigger problems. Some photo agencies, like the Associated Press, Reuters, Getty Images and Agence France-Presse, issued a “Photo kill notice” and removed it. This made people on the internet even more curious, and they started calling it the “Katespiracy.” However, here is what is going on for real.

It was just a simple mistake by the Princess of Wales. In her statement addressing the controversy, Kate acknowledged experimenting with editing, but the damage was done. Rather than quelling rumors, the removal of the photo and Kate’s explanation only served to fuel the flames of speculation.

Like many amateur photographers, I do occasionally experiment with editing. I wanted to express my apologies for any confusion the family photograph we shared yesterday caused. I hope everyone celebrating had a very happy Mother’s Day. C

What is wrong with the AI royal family photo?

Some people have noticed a few things that seem off about the picture. They believe that different parts of other photos might have been combined to make one perfect picture, but the editing seems rushed and poorly done. Also, Kate Middleton’s stomach area in the photo looks completely black, which is unusual. Normally, even if it’s a bit dark, you should still be able to see it in the picture. However, as Kate Middleton explained, all these editing errors are not related to a bigger headline.

Sorry, conspiracy theorists!
