T- Mobile is now allowing its prepaid cellphone customers in Poland to pay cellphone credit with cryptocurrency. Amidst the speculation surrounding cryptocurrency this comes as a fresh relief for bitcoin enthusiasts.
T- Mobile told Coindesk: “Our team is constantly looking for new opportunities, partnerships and cooperations with startups bringing great ideas. One of the reasons behind this initiative was to test how quick and comfortable the top-up process could be. Simplifying it to four taps while keeping high security standards is a significant achievement.”
Lech WilczyÅ„ski, CEO and co-founder of InPay, said that “The process was designed with smartphone users in mind, adding that “bitcoin wallets respond to intentions and that really helps when you want to pay on a website while surfing the web on a mobile browser.”
The system of payment works via QR code. The customers are required to first purchase the currency in Polish Zlotis (PLN) on InPay’s dedicated web page. Since one can bypass giving out personal information, a lot of customers may prefer this mode of payment.
An added incentive for customers purchasing credit in bitcoins will be a 20% of extra credit during the three month trial period.
Other companies to introduce payment with bitcoins include mobile payments pioneer mHITS Â who announced that it was entering the bitcoin space with a platform it claims is the “easiest way” to send phone credit across borders.
