Elon Musk has been disrupting the space and electric car industry with Tesla, SpaceX and SolarCity. The Visionary entrepreneur who is out there to make ‘changes to the world’ spoke recently at the MIT AeroAstro Centennial Symposium.
Although the interview was interspersed with views and ideas about space exploration what really turned heads and has the social media and more or less every tech mouthpiece abuzz is his view on the development of Artificial Intelligence.
When asked about his views on Artificial Intelligence and whether he had plans, “to enter the field of artificial intelligence?” Mr. Musk was clear in expressing his fear regarding AI development, suggesting regulation of AI tech on a global scale, and calling it mankind’s “biggest existential threat.”
“I think we should be very careful about artificial intelligence. If I had to guess at what our biggest existential threat is, it’s probably that. So we need to be very careful with artificial intelligence. I’m increasingly inclined to think that there should be some regulatory oversight, maybe at the national and international level, just to make sure that we don’t do something very foolish. With artificial intelligence we’re summoning the demon. You know those stories where there’s the guy with the pentagram, and the holy water, and he’s like — Yeah, he’s sure he can control the demon? Doesn’t work out.”
