Bose Corporation have posted a raft of new job oppurtunities on LinkedIn, based around machine learning, data science and network analysis. The team they’re building appears to be focused around offering a more personally-tailored customer experience, something we’ve seen many large enterprises using big data for in recent years.
The introductory paragraph to the job postings reads: “Are you excited by extracting meaning from large amounts of data? Our new group is responsible for inventing and creating new experiences for our music-loving customers using big data from both our network connected devices like SoundTouchâ„¢ Wi-Fi® music systems, as well as data from many other sources. These experiences might be around picking just the music or around delivering just the right information at the right time. As a Data Scientist in this research group and an early member of a growing team you will have the opportunity to help guide our approach and help shape the group’s direction.”
They also posted several positions in their “Algorithms and Cloud Experience Team”, including a posting for a “Music Information Retrieval Specialist” and a “Senior Software Engineer: Cloud Computing/DevOps”, the latter of which would be responsible for the construction of new end-to-end customer-facing features based in the cloud.
The new hires seemed to be geared around creating a “next generation streaming music platform and ecosystem of products”- a curious move for an electronics company, whose products are already used to stream music from a number of platforms such as Spotify and Pandora. Whatever approach they’re taking, we’re likely to see results fast; many of the applications state they expect proof-of-concepts within three months of joining the company.
