Pop-up mass transit system, Bridj has had double the reasons to revel as it announced last week that it had acquired $4 million in funding to build on its innovative idea on mass transit and to top it, they hired Gabe Klein as its new Chief Operating Officer.

What Uber and Lyft are doing for hired cars, Bridj plans to innovate using a mass transit. Bridj intends to create an urban transportation system, designed to more efficiently shuttle people from their homes to work and back again. The company utilises data points with regards to when and where people travel to and from, thus designing a dynamic map for the city. Armed with this data, Bridj claims it can reduce commute time and cost.

With over two decades of transit experience, including leading the transportation departments in both Chicago and Washington, D.C., Gabe Klein seems like an ideal fit with Bridj’s vision. Klein said in a statement, “I am excited to join Matthew George, Bridj’s founder, Dr. David BlockSchachter and the rest of the team at Bridj to continue to make a consequential, quality of life change in cities.”

Leading the funding round were investors like Atlas Ventures, ZipCar investor Jill Preotle, NextView Ventures, Suffolk Equity, Freshtracks Capital. The company has been doing test runs for the past few months in Boston, using a series of pop-up minibus routes. with the reigns of the company in Gabe Klein’s hands it looks to capitalise on the innovation of their tech.
