YouTube has launched an “Ask” button powered by Gemini AI, enabling viewers in select regions to obtain instant, AI-generated answers directly from video content through an on-screen chat interface.
The feature appears beneath the video player on eligible videos and is accessible to both YouTube Premium and non‑Premium users, creating a uniform entry point for AI-assisted queries. Viewers can type custom questions or select structured prompts, designed to align responses closely with the video being watched and minimize navigation away from the main interface.
Available prompts include options to summarise the video, recommend related content based on current viewing, or explain specific concepts referenced in the material. Responses surface within an integrated chat window that remains anchored alongside the playback experience, maintaining continuity while supplying contextual detail.
YouTube specifies that the chat displays a clear disclaimer stating that AI can make mistakes, directing users to verify information independently. The “Ask” button currently functions in English on iPhone, Android, and Windows for users aged 18 and above in the United States, Canada, New Zealand, and India, with YouTube’s Help page confirming a planned expansion to more regions and languages.
