Google Ads commemorated its 25th anniversary on October 23, 2025. Vidhya Srinivasan, the Vice President and General Manager of Ads and Commerce, reflected on the platform’s history and its mission to utilize digital technology for business growth.
The initiative began a quarter-century ago, founded on the principle of harnessing the digital world to help businesses expand. The company stated the success of its diverse customer base, ranging from mom-and-pop shops and startups to local blogs and global brands, has served as a primary focus. Google Ads has maintained a concentration on fueling this growth while reimagining possibilities for the industry, its partners, and its user base of billions.
Over its history, the platform marked its evolution with several key breakthroughs. These developments include the introduction of keyword-based Search advertising, a significant shift to accommodate mobile devices, the launch of the first video advertisements on YouTube, the rollout of Google Analytics for performance measurement, and the subsequent adoption of campaigns powered by artificial intelligence.
Currently, generative AI is identified as a transformative force in digital marketing, with Google Ads developing agentic capabilities, creating tools to automate and optimize campaigns, and advancing methods for creative generation. According to the company, these AI-driven features are designed to provide businesses of all sizes the capacity to scale their creative output and establish connections with new audiences globally.
Srinivasan articulated a philosophy that the best advertisements function as “answers” which provide inspiration by responding to user challenges, questions, and curiosities. With artificial intelligence as its foundation, Google Ads aims to deliver these answers with greater speed and efficiency. The company identified its Search and YouTube platforms as the primary environments where user discovery begins and consumer decisions are made.
The platform’s achievements are credited to its thousands of employees and to its advertisers, publishers, creators, and users who continually push for improvement. Srinivasan extended a message of gratitude to these stakeholders for 25 years of contributions, along with a pledge to make the next 25 years “even more memorable.”
