According to TechCrunch, TikTok has integrated YouTube Music into its “Add to Music app” feature, enabling users to directly save discovered songs to the streaming platform. This update allows individuals to seamlessly transfer songs from TikTok to YouTube Music, where they are automatically added to a dedicated “TikTok Songs” playlist.

The “Add to Music app” feature was initially launched in 2023 through a partnership between TikTok and a limited selection of music streaming services. The core functionality of the feature centers on providing users with a streamlined method for preserving songs encountered on TikTok within their preferred music streaming service. This simplifies the process of discovering and subsequently saving music.

Upon its initial release, the feature’s compatibility was restricted to Spotify, Apple Music, and Amazon Music. Geographically, its availability was limited to the United States and the United Kingdom. TikTok subsequently broadened the feature’s reach by incorporating support for Deezer and SoundCloud. This expansion also extended the feature’s availability to encompass over 160 countries.

With the addition of YouTube Music, users will now find it as an option when tapping the “Add Song” button, located beneath the clip description within TikTok. Upon selecting YouTube Music for the first time, it becomes the default application for saving songs. Users can modify this default selection through the settings menu, navigating to the Music section to choose an alternative service.

According to Tracy Gardner, TikTok’s Global Head of Music Business Development, “Add to Music App continues to deliver real results for the music industry, with hundreds of millions of track saves translating into billions of streams on music streaming services.” This statement highlights the tangible impact of the “Add to Music app” feature on the music streaming landscape.
