Samsung has reintroduced its Bixby voice assistant, integrating deep web search capabilities powered by Perplexity, despite the company’s promotion of Google’s Gemini AI assistant on its smartphones. The updated Bixby will be available with the forthcoming One UI 8.5 software update.

The revamped Bixby now understands conversational natural language, allowing for more fluid human-like interactions, according to a 9To5Google report. Samsung stated in a deleted newsroom post, “We redesigned Bixby to enable more natural interactions and intuitive device control.” The assistant also gained access to device settings.

This functionality permits Bixby to guide users to specific settings, such as the “Keep Screen On While Viewing” option, in response to conversational requests. Perplexity integration enables Bixby to execute multi-step tasks requiring internet browsing, including location-based searches for restaurants or cafes.

The new Bixby is anticipated to launch with One UI 8.5, expected to accompany the Galaxy S26 series release in late February and early March. The AI-enhanced Bixby is currently available in the fourth One UI 8.5 beta update for eligible devices.

Samsung’s official newsroom post announcing the new Bixby was deleted, suggesting a potential premature publication or retraction of information. The company has not provided further comment on the post’s removal.
