Intel vice president and general manager of PC products Daniel Rogers announced at CES a handheld gaming platform for portable devices that includes hardware, software, and a dedicated chip, built on Core Series 3 processors known as Panther Lake.
The platform aims to expand Intel’s presence in gaming hardware. Panther Lake processors were announced last year and are currently being deployed across various PCs. These processors mark Intel’s initial application of the 18A manufacturing process, with production commencing in 2025.
A specific chip within the platform targets handheld gaming devices, as reported by IGN and subsequently confirmed by TechCrunch. This development builds on Intel’s established involvement in gaming components.
Intel has manufactured chips for gaming PCs since the 1990s. In 2022, the company intensified its gaming efforts by launching Intel Arc GPUs, broadening its portfolio beyond central processing units.
The handheld gaming market remains under AMD’s dominance. During its CES keynote, AMD unveiled the Ryzen 7 9850X3D processor tailored for gaming PCs, alongside advancements in ray-tracing and graphics technologies.
