The feature activates when an owner reports a theft by marking the eBike or battery as stolen directly in the eBike Flow app. This service launches free of charge at the end of January 2026. Upon marking, the stolen status triggers immediate effects designed to hinder thieves from profiting. The status renders the eBike identifiable throughout the Bosch eBike Systems digital ecosystem, complicating any attempts to resell it undetected and raising the probability of recovery for the rightful owner.
Individuals purchasing used eBikes, along with dealers and public authorities, encounter specific safeguards during interaction attempts. When such parties try to connect to a marked eBike using the eBike Flow app, they receive a clear warning. This alert displays the serial numbers of the components flagged as stolen, providing precise identification. Beyond the warning, the app connection becomes permanently blocked, severing all digital links to the device. This blockage extends to core functionalities: the eBike loses access to over-the-air software updates, and users cannot select custom riding modes, effectively limiting its operational capabilities and market value.
Dealers face parallel protections during maintenance procedures. The Bosch eBike Systems DiagnosticTool, used for servicing, issues a warning upon connection to any eBike marked as stolen. This notification ensures service providers remain informed of the device’s status before proceeding with any work, integrating theft detection seamlessly into professional workflows.
The system’s effectiveness stems from its digital allocation principle, a foundational element of the smart system architecture. Each eBike component—the motor, battery, and display—undergoes unique registration within the platform. Fleet managers can deactivate motor support instantly from afar, immobilizing the eBike without physical intervention.
Access to detailed operating data occurs through a dedicated cloud interface. Available metrics encompass battery level for current charge status, range forecast to predict travel distance, service intervals outlining scheduled maintenance timings, and maintenance requirements detailing specific needs. If GPS tracking activates, real-time position data appears. Usage statistics track overall patterns, aiding in operational analysis.
