ASUS defends misaligned RTX 5090 HyperX power port as “intentional design”

The controversy began when a user noted the power interface was offset by several millimeters from the heatsink cutout, preventing standard cables from clicking into place.

ASUS addressed concerns regarding the off-center 16-pin power connector on its RTX 5090 HyperX graphics card, stating the design was intentional. A Reddit user initially reported that the 12V-2×6 power connector was significantly shifted right of the heatsink opening, hindering full cable insertion.

ASUS’s engineering team confirmed the off-center power interface constituted part of the original product design, based on the overall structure and electrical layout. Full insertion of the 12V-2×6 power connector ensures proper power delivery, particularly for high-end graphics cards. Blockage by the heatsink casing could impede cable connection and potentially damage the graphics card.

The RTX 5090 HyperX model features dual power inputs. This configuration, when combined with a rear-mounted motherboard and 12V-2×6 power cables, can theoretically support a maximum power input of 800W.
