Alibaba’s Qwen Code v0.5.0 has been officially released (via IT Home), transitioning the platform from a command-line tool to a “development ecosystem.” The update allows users to run four Qwen Code instances concurrently within a single terminal window, eliminating the need to wait for conversational tasks to conclude.
This functionality enables simultaneous execution of tasks such as intelligent question answering, real-time translation, prototyping, and creative drawing. An official example demonstrates queries including “Hello, what is Vibe Coding?”, multilingual translation via the /translate command, prototype design requests like “@qwen-code-JD.md Please create a job posting website based on the recruitment requirements,” and creative drawing initiated by “/hand-draw introduces a new partner in AI Coding…”
Qwen Code maintains a command-line interface, offering quick and flexible access to local files and seamless integration into workflows due to its lightweight terminal design. The v0.5.0 release introduces a VSCode plugin, allowing users to access the Qwen Code dialog interface directly within the VSCode environment via an icon in the upper right corner of the file.
The release also includes the Qwen Code TypeScript SDK, enabling developers to programmatically integrate Qwen Code’s features. While the SDK initially supports TypeScript, versions for Java, Python, and other languages are planned.
