Waymo, the Alphabet Inc. autonomous driving subsidiary, recorded 450,000 robotaxi rides per week, according to an investor letter from Tiger Global Management to its investors that CNBC first reported.
This figure represents a significant increase from the 250,000 weekly rides the company disclosed six months ago. Waymo has been expanding its commercial robotaxi services across various U.S. cities.
The Tiger Global letter, an appeal for investment into its next venture capital fund, highlighted gains from its current fund, attributing them largely to investments in companies including Waymo. The disclosed 450,000 weekly rides are nearly double the number Waymo publicly announced in the spring.
Waymo currently offers commercial robotaxi services in five cities, including Atlanta, Austin, Los Angeles, Phoenix, and the San Francisco Bay Area. The company has announced plans to launch in 12 additional cities by 2026, which include Dallas, Denver, Houston, Nashville, and San Diego.
