Google and Apple introduced a new feature aimed at simplifying data transfer between Android and iOS mobile devices during their setup phases, as revealed in the latest build of Android’s Canary operating system.
This development signifies a collaboration between the two technology companies, which have historically operated independently. The feature is also expected to become available in a future developer beta of iOS 26.
A Google representative confirmed the accuracy of a report from 9to5Google regarding this new functionality. The company did not provide additional details on how the data transfer mechanism will operate. Both brands currently offer dedicated “Switch to Android” and “Switch to iOS” applications to facilitate ecosystem migration. The integrated operating system level support and expanded data type transfer aim to streamline this process further. Android Canary represents an early stage of development, and features may undergo iterations before final release.
