Google Cloud announced a multi-year partnership with AI coding startup Replit on Thursday to strengthen its position against competitors like Anthropic and Cursor. The deal expands Replit’s use of Google Cloud services, integrates additional Google AI models into Replit’s platform, and enables AI coding applications for enterprise customers, with Google serving as Replit’s main cloud provider.
Replit founder and CEO Amjad Masad explained the partnership’s objectives during the announcement. “The goal for us, and Google, is to make enterprise vibe coding a thing,” Masad said. “We want to show the world that these tools are actually going to transform businesses and how people work. Instead of people working in silos, designers only doing design, product managers only write…now anyone in the company can be entrepreneurial.” This collaboration targets broader adoption of AI tools within corporate environments, allowing non-technical staff to contribute to software development.
Established nearly a decade ago, Replit has emerged as a prominent player in the expanding field of AI vibe coding. The startup’s growth accelerated in September when it secured a $250 million funding round. This investment nearly tripled Replit’s valuation to $3 billion. At the same time, Replit reported a sharp increase in its annualized revenue, rising from $2.8 million to $150 million within less than one year. These financial milestones underscore Replit’s rapid scaling in the AI-driven coding sector.
Collins Dictionary names “vibe coding” the 2025 word of the year
Recent data from Ramp, a fintech firm that monitors enterprise expenditures on its platform, highlights Replit’s momentum. Replit recorded the fastest growth in new customers compared to other software vendors tracked by Ramp. In parallel, Google demonstrated exceptional performance on the same platform, acquiring new customers and increasing spending at a quicker pace than any other company. This data illustrates the synergies between the two organizations and the market demand for their combined offerings.
Vibe-coding, a concept that gained traction this year, relies on advanced AI models capable of producing functional code and complete applications from simple natural-language instructions. This approach lowers barriers for individuals lacking extensive programming skills. For instance, Anthropic revealed that its Claude Code product achieved $1 billion in run-rate revenue. Similarly, the coding startup Cursor completed a funding round in November, resulting in a $29.3 billion valuation and $1 billion in annualized revenue. These developments reflect the sector’s explosive expansion.
Replit positions its platform as user-friendly for non-developers, which supports Google Cloud’s penetration into enterprise markets. The partnership extends Google’s AI capabilities to audiences beyond conventional engineering roles. Google benefits from the recent launch of its high-performing model, Gemini 3. Following Gemini 3’s introduction, Alphabet shares increased by more than 12 percent.
