Opera has expanded Gemini-powered AI features to its Opera One and Opera GX browsers, complementing existing functionalities in Opera Neon. This initiative brings advanced AI capabilities to a broader user base.
Opera announced an enhanced partnership with Google to integrate the latest Gemini models. The AI side panel, previously available in Opera Neon, will now also serve Opera One and Opera GX users. This panel offers summaries, tab comparisons, and analysis of files, images, and videos based on browsing context.
The updated Opera AI engine has been rebuilt for speed, featuring a new architecture. It adopts an agentic-based engine from Opera Neon, enabling a 20% faster response time. This engine supports voice input and output, alongside file analysis for multiple file types, including images and video.
For user privacy, Opera states its browsers provide comprehensive control over data shared with the AI. Users can specify what information remains private through clear privacy controls. Per Wetterdal, Opera’s EVP Commercial, stated, “AI is reshaping how people interact with the web, and the browser is the natural entry point for those experiences. (…) Through our partnership with Google, we are able to offer users the experiences they really want through native search and AI features, for free, directly in their Opera One and Opera GX browsers while our most advanced users of the agentic Opera Neon browser are already getting access to Gemini 3 Pro.”
These new features across Opera One, Opera GX, and Opera Neon are projected to reach over 80 million users. Further details regarding this announcement are available.
