Huawei launched the HarmonyOS Galaxy Interconnect app on Apple’s App Store, enabling file transfers between HarmonyOS 6 devices and iOS devices. This cross-platform tool, announced at the HarmonyOS 6 launch event, extends Huawei’s device interconnection services to iPhone and iPad users through a dedicated application.
Huawei pioneered device interconnection services among major smartphone manufacturers by allowing file transfers across various devices using a single account. This capability marked an early implementation in the industry, facilitating seamless data movement without additional hardware. The company also introduced mobile-to-PC collaboration as a first-of-its-kind feature, powered by advanced application programming interfaces (APIs) integrated directly into its devices. These APIs enabled efficient communication and shared functionalities between smartphones and computers, setting a foundation for broader ecosystem integration.
As HarmonyOS underwent rapid development, Huawei expanded its device interconnection framework significantly. Users within the Huawei ecosystem gained the ability to share files effortlessly across compatible devices. Remote control of devices became another core function, allowing management of multiple gadgets from a central point. This evolution transformed the interconnection services from basic file handling into a comprehensive system that supports daily workflows and multitasking across hardware.
During the HarmonyOS 6 launch event, Huawei unveiled an upgrade to its file-sharing capabilities by making them accessible to iOS users. The company developed a specific cross-platform application to handle these transfers, which has now been made available on the App Store. This move bridges the gap between Huawei’s operating system and Apple’s ecosystem, providing interoperability for users of both platforms.
The app’s features, as detailed in its App Store description, include several practical tools for connectivity. Device Search allows users on iPhones and iPads to locate Huawei devices running HarmonyOS 6.0 or higher versions. File transfer and reception support the movement of contacts, pictures, videos, and other files in both directions.
Device Information displays the current model of connected devices and permits customization of an application avatar for personalization. Transfer Records provide a log of all sent and received data, enabling users to track their interactions. The Help and Feedback section offers step-by-step usage instructions and a channel for submitting user feedback to Huawei.
Early user reports confirm that HarmonyOS 6 devices successfully transfer photos, including motion photos, videos, and additional file types to iPhones and iPads. The process involves searching for available devices within the app, followed by previewing files prior to sending them. Compatibility extends to iOS, iPadOS, and macOS operating systems, ensuring broad support across Apple products. The HarmonyOS Galaxy Interconnect app remains exclusive to HarmonyOS 6 devices available in China.
