Google Tasks may introduce a sorting option by deadline following an APK teardown by Android Authority of the Android app version 2025.11.17.833092473.0-release, enabling users to organize tasks from earliest to latest due date to prioritize completion.
The teardown process involved analyzing the app’s code to uncover unreleased features, specifically activating the deadline-based sorting capability. This development comes shortly after Google Tasks implemented a deadline feature, allowing users to assign due dates to individual tasks within the application.
When selected, the new sorting option arranges tasks in chronological order based on their deadlines, starting with those due soonest and progressing to later dates. Tasks without any assigned deadline position themselves toward the end of the list, facilitating a clear view of immediate priorities separate from undated items.
This addition expands the existing sorting mechanisms available in Google Tasks. Users currently organize tasks by title in alphabetical order, by date which likely refers to creation or last modification, by those starred most recently to highlight frequently marked important items, or through a custom manual arrangement that preserves user-defined sequences.
The feature’s implementation aims to enhance task management efficiency across Google’s ecosystem. Although no specific release date has been disclosed by Google, the sorting option is anticipated to integrate seamlessly into all supported platforms for accessing Tasks, including the standalone Tasks mobile application, the integrated view within Gmail for email-linked reminders, and the Calendar app for scheduling alignment.
Currently, the deadline functionality in Google Tasks permits setting only a date without specifying an exact time, limiting precision for time-sensitive obligations. The teardown did not indicate changes to this aspect, though future updates could address the absence of time selection to allow more granular control over task deadlines.
