Recent leaks suggest that Samsung’s upcoming tri-fold smartphone is nearing its launch and will likely be available in the United States. Although Samsung provided the first official tease of the device back in January, SamMobile has now spotted that firmware testing is underway for a device with the model number SM-F968U1. According to standard Samsung naming conventions, this identifier points to an unlocked variant intended for the US market.
This development follows the testing of firmware for model SM-F968U, which represents the carrier-locked version expected to arrive in the US. The team at SamMobile notes that while this firmware testing is occurring later than typically expected, it strongly indicates that American consumers will be able to purchase the handset, settling previous debates regarding its regional availability.
Regarding the device’s design, leaks indicate it will fold inwards and feature a separate outer screen, differentiating it from the Huawei Mate XT. When fully opened, the display is rumored to measure 10 inches diagonally, a form factor that was briefly visible in an official appearance. To utilize this extra-large screen, the device is expected to include advanced software multitasking capabilities.
In terms of specifications, earlier leaks suggest the phone will be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset and will support NFC payments, wireless charging, and reverse charging. Further reports point to a substantial 5,600 mAh battery. While Samsung has officially promised that the phone will be released by the end of the year, specific leaks claim the launch date is set for Friday, December 5.
