Tesla is reportedly integrating Apple CarPlay into its vehicles’ software, a development that could be discontinued before public release, according to a Bloomberg report.
This initiative represents a significant shift for the automaker, which has historically declined requests for CarPlay integration. CarPlay allows smartphone projection and app display on a vehicle’s infotainment screen. Tesla is focusing on the standard CarPlay version, not the advanced CarPlay Ultra. General Motors recently began moving away from CarPlay support in its vehicles.
Tesla has previously implemented native applications for streaming music services such as Apple Music, Spotify, and Tidal. User feedback indicates inconsistent performance for these applications. The use of these native apps necessitates a subscription to Tesla’s premium connectivity package, priced at $9.99 monthly or $99 annually.
The incorporation of CarPlay may prompt consumers who have previously opted against Tesla vehicles to reconsider.
