Airbnb is piloting a service with Instacart, allowing guests to order groceries directly through the Airbnb app before and during their stay, as confirmed to TechCrunch on Wednesday.
An Airbnb spokesperson stated via email, “We are regularly testing new product updates, categories and initiatives, in order to provide the best possible experience for our community. As part of that, following the launch of Airbnb Services earlier this year, we will pilot groceries with Instacart in select markets across the U.S. beginning in January.”
This new kitchen stocking service will be accessible to selected hosts with qualifying listings in Phoenix, Orlando, and Los Angeles. This information comes from a help page on Airbnb’s website, the news having first been reported by Bloomberg.
According to the help page, hosts who receive and put away guests’ preorders before check-in will receive $25. They will also receive a $100 bonus for their initial completed order. Guests can place Instacart orders from the Airbnb app up to three weeks prior to their stay.
An Instacart spokesperson commented via email, “By bringing groceries powered by Instacart directly into the Airbnb app, we’re making it easier for guests to stock their kitchens and feel at home from day one. We’re excited to partner with Airbnb on this pilot and put our broad retailer network and leading technology to work for their guests.”
This partnership expands Airbnb’s “Services,” introduced in May. These services allow guests to book experiences like massages, haircuts, or chef-prepared meals. These offerings can be added to a stay or booked independently.
