Meta introduced Vibes, a short-form video feed featuring AI-generated content, in its Meta AI app to European users on Thursday, following its U.S. launch six weeks prior.

Vibes allows users to create and share AI-generated videos and access a dedicated feed displaying AI videos from other users. Meta indicates this feed will personalize to individual interests over time. Users can generate videos using prompts or remix existing videos, adding visuals, music, or adjusting styles. The company described this as “an inherently social and collaborative creation experience, where you’re encouraged to remix, co-create, and build stories together with friends.” Videos and content can be shared to the Vibes feed, sent to friends, or cross-posted to Instagram and Facebook Stories and Reels.

OpenAI launched Sora, a social media platform for creating and sharing AI-generated videos, a few days after Meta’s U.S. launch. Meta’s approach to AI-generated content contrasts with platforms like YouTube, which are addressing the increase of low-quality AI content. Earlier this year, Meta advised creators to prioritize “authentic storytelling” and address “unoriginal” content.

User feedback on Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s initial announcement in September included comments like “gang nobody wants this” and “Bro’s posting ai slop on his own app.” Another comment read: “I think I speak for everyone when I say: What….?” Despite these sentiments, Meta reports a tenfold increase in media generation within the Meta AI app since its launch.
