Apple is introducing automatically generated chapters and timed links in its Podcasts app for English-language shows. These features, aimed at improving episode navigation and connectivity, will launch in iOS 26.2, currently available in developer beta testing.
The automatically generated chapters apply only to episodes where creators have not added their own chapters. This ensures that manual content from producers takes precedence. When auto-generated, chapters carry a clear label indicating their origin, positioned above the episode’s chapter list for transparency to listeners. This approach allows podcasts without custom segmentation to benefit from structured breakdowns based on content analysis.
Creators gain the ability to insert timed links at precise timestamps within episodes. These links direct users to various Apple services, including Apple Music, Apple News, Apple Podcasts, and Apple TV, as well as additional platforms. According to the announcement, creators can “provide links to Apple Music, Apple News, Apple Podcasts, Apple TV, and more” aligned to specific moments. Such integration fosters seamless cross-service engagement during playback.
Additionally, the system automatically incorporates timed links whenever a creator references another podcast in their episode. This feature enhances discoverability by connecting related content without manual intervention. Like the chapters, creators hold the option to opt out of both automatic chapter generation and timed link additions, preserving control over episode presentation.
The timed links display in a banner on the Now Playing screen, alerting users at the relevant timestamp. They also appear in the episode’s transcript and on the details page, providing easy access post-listen. Spotify implemented a comparable automatic chapters tool earlier in 2025, setting a precedent in the podcasting space for algorithmic content enhancement.
