WhatsApp released an update for its Mac application today, introducing chat theme customization with 38 color options to align with the iOS version. This feature enables users to personalize chat appearances through preset and adjustable settings accessed via the app’s menu.
The update provides 22 preset themes alongside options for custom color and brightness modifications, allowing precise tailoring of visual elements. WABetaInfo identified this addition in the latest version, which extends iOS-like functionality to Mac users for enhanced personalization. The rollout occurs gradually, reaching all eligible users over the coming weeks. To verify availability, individuals navigate to Settings followed by Chats within the application.
Customization extends beyond colors to include wallpaper uploads, where users select personal images to serve as chat backgrounds. Themes apply either universally across all conversations or specifically to single chats, offering flexibility in design choices. According to WABetaInfo, “Just like in WhatsApp Messenger, these themes automatically adjust the message bubble and background colors to create a consistent visual style.
Users can also upload their own images as wallpapers, apply themes globally or to individual chats, and even combine solid colors with subtle design elements.” This ensures cohesive aesthetics without manual adjustments to individual components.
Device synchronization remains absent for these settings, permitting distinct configurations for the same chat on different platforms. For instance, a user sets one color scheme on Mac while maintaining another on iPhone, preserving independent preferences across ecosystems. This separation supports varied user experiences tailored to each device’s interface.
