Canva launched its Creative Operating System (COS), a unified AI-powered ecosystem integrating the Visual Suite, AI capabilities, and platform infrastructure for its 260 million users worldwide. This initiative aims to provide an end-to-end content creation and management experience through a three-tier framework.
The Creative Operating System structures its operations on a three-tier framework that combines creativity, intelligence via AI, and platform infrastructure into one cohesive ecosystem. This design enables users to produce content across diverse media formats in a streamlined manner. By merging these elements, Canva seeks to facilitate seamless workflows from initial concept to final execution, supporting both individual creators and larger teams in handling complex design tasks efficiently.
Central to the COS is the Design Foundation Model, an AI-powered system developed to enhance design processes. This model accelerates workflows by automating repetitive tasks and generating intelligent suggestions tailored to user inputs. It transforms traditional design methods by incorporating machine learning to predict and refine visual elements, allowing creators to iterate faster and achieve higher-quality outputs without extensive manual adjustments.

Canva also introduced “Ask @Canva,” a new AI assistant serving as an on-demand design consultant. This tool assists users in creating visual content, collaborating with team members, and scaling brand assets. Through natural language interactions, it provides real-time guidance on design choices, layout optimizations, and branding consistency, thereby reducing the time required for project development and enabling non-experts to produce professional results.

Upgrades to the Visual Suite include a dedicated video editor for assembling and editing multimedia projects directly within the platform. Email creation tools have been revamped to offer customizable templates and automation features for marketing campaigns. Data collection capabilities now allow users to gather and organize information natively in Canva, eliminating the need for external software. Additionally, integration between Canva Sheets and Canva Code enhances workflow by combining data analysis with programmable design elements, permitting automated generation of visuals from spreadsheets or scripts.

In a strategic expansion, Canva has made Affinity’s professional design tools available free forever. These tools encompass vector editing for scalable graphics, pixel-based manipulation for raster images, and layout functions for multi-page documents. While basic access remains cost-free, advanced AI features require subscription to paid plans. This approach integrates high-end capabilities into Canva’s ecosystem, positioning the platform as a direct competitor to Adobe and other enterprise-level content creation solutions.
The launch event was broadcast live to millions of viewers around the globe. Canva’s Chief Product Officer described it as the company’s boldest transformation to date. The initiative targets empowering creativity during what Canva terms the “Imagination Era,” serving both individual users and enterprise clients with comprehensive tools for content management.
