YouTube is implementing a voluntary exit program offering severance to U.S.-based employees, as confirmed to TechCrunch on Wednesday; the news was initially reported by Sources.
Neal Mohan, YouTube CEO, informed employees of the program via an internal memo on Wednesday. The memo also detailed a reorganization of the Google-owned company’s product teams into three distinct organizations, each reporting directly to Mohan.
The “Subscription Products” team will concentrate on YouTube’s subscription offerings, encompassing YouTube Music, Premium, and OTT. The “Viewer Products” team will focus on enhancing the viewer experience across the primary YouTube app, YouTube Kids, Learning, and Trust & Safety. The “Creator & Community Products” organization aims to support creators and foster community engagement. YouTube states that these changes do not involve the elimination of any roles.
This initiative coincides with Alphabet’s third-quarter earnings report, released Wednesday, indicating YouTube’s advertising revenue reached $10.26 billion during the period. This represents a 15% year-over-year increase.
