Google released the final software update for the original Pixel Watch in October 2025, concluding the device’s promised three years of support since its 2022 launch. This update delivers minor security patches and bug fixes without upgrading to Wear OS 6.

The original Pixel Watch debuted in 2022 as Google’s first entry into the smartwatch market, featuring integration with the Wear OS platform and compatibility with Android devices. At launch, Google committed to providing at least three years of software updates, encompassing operating system upgrades, security enhancements, and feature additions. This policy ensured users received ongoing improvements to maintain device functionality and protection against emerging threats. The October 2025 update, identified by software version BW1A.251005.003.W1, fulfills this commitment precisely three years after release.

According to a report from Android Authority, this update focuses solely on minor security patches and bug fixes, addressing specific software glitches and vulnerabilities without introducing major changes. It does not include the Wear OS 6 operating system upgrade, which represents a significant platform advancement for compatible devices. The rollout began in October 2025 and proceeds gradually, with the update expected to reach all eligible original Pixel Watch users over the following days through over-the-air distribution.

With this release, official support for the first-generation Pixel Watch ends, as stated in the Android Authority article. Google may issue occasional security patches beyond this point, but no further major updates or feature developments are anticipated. This development aligns with Google’s standard update policy for hardware, which balances innovation in newer products with sustained maintenance for legacy devices. Users relying on the original model for daily tasks, fitness tracking, or notifications now face limitations in accessing the latest software capabilities.

In comparison, the Pixel Watch 2 and Pixel Watch 3 receive a more comprehensive October 2025 update. This package incorporates the Wear OS 6 upgrade, along with enhanced security measures and additional functionalities. Specific additions include the auto-launch feature for Google Maps, which activates navigation based on detected user movements, and improvements to safety features such as emergency detection and location sharing. These elements expand usability for health monitoring, connectivity, and protective alerts.

The security patches in the October 2025 update for all Pixel Watches correspond to Google’s monthly security bulletin for that period. This bulletin details resolutions for identified vulnerabilities in the Android ecosystem, including potential exploits in Wear OS components. By applying these patches, devices mitigate risks from malware, unauthorized access, and system instabilities, upholding Google’s emphasis on user privacy and data integrity.

Google recommends that owners of the first-generation Pixel Watch upgrade to subsequent models, such as the Pixel Watch 3 or Pixel Watch 4, to access ongoing software support and emerging features. These newer devices offer extended update commitments, refined hardware designs, and deeper integration with Google’s ecosystem of services.
