Electronic Arts has officially announced that Battlefield 6 will receive a free-to-play battle royale mode titled “Battlefield: RedSec,” launching today, October 28. This confirmation follows weeks of leaks and speculation surrounding a standalone battle royale experience for the latest entry in the franchise.
Battlefield: RedSec will be available as a free download for everyone, meaning players do not need to own the main Battlefield 6 game to jump in. This strategy positions RedSec as a direct competitor to Activision’s highly successful free-to-play Call of Duty: Warzone.

While specific gameplay details remain scarce, the mode is expected to follow the traditional battle royale format: players descend onto a large map and fight to be the last one standing. A short teaser trailer released by EA suggests players might be able to choose from four distinct soldier classes.
It is currently unknown how closely Battlefield: RedSec will integrate with the narrative or seasonal content of the main Battlefield 6 game. Competitor Warzone often features storylines and events that tie into the ongoing Call of Duty seasons.
Coinciding with the RedSec launch, Battlefield 6 Season 1 also kicks off today, October 28. This first major content drop for the main game includes new maps, game modes, vehicles, weapons, attachments, and cosmetic items for players who own Battlefield 6.
