AWS outage: A complete list of every site and app that went down

A major AWS outage on Monday triggered worldwide service disruptions across apps, websites, and smart devices.

A major AWS outage today has caused a global outage, taking down a significant portion of the internet. The Amazon Web Services being down is affecting countless apps down and websites. Users flocked to Downdetector to report an internet outage and check on their favorite services. The AWS outage status confirms “increased error rates” for multiple services, including DynamoDB and servers in regions like US-EAST-1. This AWS incident today has left many wondering, why is everything down?

Downdetector reported thousands of outage incidents for AWS in the United States alone. While some speculate about a cyber attack today, Amazon has confirmed its engineers are working to resolve the AWS issues.

Here is the full list of sites and apps affected by the Amazon cloud service issue.

Amazon.com

The outage did not spare Amazon’s own ecosystem. Users asking “is Amazon down?” found their answer when Amazon.com itself faced major connectivity issues. The Amazon outage also impacted the company’s stock (AMZN), as the Amazon system down event highlighted its critical infrastructure role. Many reported Amazon not working or the Amazon app not working.

Prime Video

Streaming was also hit, with Amazon Prime Video experiencing significant problems. Viewers reporting Prime Video down were met with error messages, as the Amazon Prime Video down service struggled during the wider Amazon outage.

Alexa

Smart home devices were not immune. The Alexa outage left many users with unresponsive Amazon Alexa devices. Reports of “Alexa down” and “is Alexa down right now?” flooded social media as the Amazon Alexa down event caused widespread disruption in connected homes.

Robinhood

The financial sector felt the impact, with Robinhood down. The Robinhood app down status caused concern for traders. Robinhood confirmed the AWS issue was affecting its financial services, a major concern during trading hours.

Snapchat

One of the most significant impacts was Snapchat. Users globally were asking, “why is my Snapchat not working?” and “is Snapchat down right now?” The Snapchat outage left users unable to send messages, with many reporting Snapchat not sending. As Downdetector Snapchat reports soared, users demanded to know when will Snapchat be fixed.

Perplexity AI

The AI search engine Perplexity AI was also affected. CEO Aravind Srinivas confirmed the AWS-related issue was the root cause of their disruptions. Users asking “is Perplexity down?” received confirmation that the AWS incident today was impacting stability.

Venmo

Peer-to-peer payments were stalled as reports of Venmo down surfaced. The Venmo outage, operated by PayPal, was another casualty of the Amazon servers down event, preventing users from sending or receiving money.

Canvas by Instructure

Educational services were hit, with Canvas by Instructure experiencing failures. Students and educators relying on the platform were unable to access materials due to the ongoing AWS outage and internet down reports.

Crunchyroll

Anime streaming service Crunchyroll was also impacted, with users reporting inability to access content during the global outage.

Roblox

The gaming world was heavily hit, starting with Roblox down. Players asking “is Roblox down right now?” found the Roblox servers were struggling. The Roblox outage was widely reported on Roblox Downdetector, with many complaining Roblox not working due to the AWS crash.

Whatnot

The live-streaming and collectibles marketplace Whatnot also reported intermittent outages, as its services rely on the now-struggling Amazon Web Services.

Rainbow Six Siege

Another major gaming title, Rainbow Six Siege, faced downtime. Players experienced connectivity issues and errors, another victim of the servers down event linked to AWS.

Coinbase

Alongside Robinhood, the cryptocurrency platform Coinbase was also affected. Reports of “is Coinbase down?” were confirmed as the Coinbase outage impacted financial services and trading due to the AWS incident today.

Canva

Design platform Canva was also listed among the services down. Users relying on the tool for creative work were unable to access their projects during the widespread outage.

Duolingo

Language-learning app Duolingo was not spared. Users reported Duolingo down, with the app failing to load lessons, breaking streaks for many learners caught in the AWS outage.

Goodreads

The book-tracking social site Goodreads, an Amazon subsidiary, also experienced connectivity issues, disappointing readers trying to log their progress.

Ring

Amazon’s own smart home security brand, Ring, was hit hard. The Ring outage meant many users found their Ring app down or their Ring camera down. Reports of “is Ring down right now?” spiked as the Ring system down event left many without access to their security feeds.

The New York Times

Media outlets were also affected. The New York Times website faced intermittent failures. This also led to reports of “NYT Games down,” as users were unable to access popular puzzles like Wordle (which was also independently affected).

Life360

The family locator app Life360 was also down, causing concern for families unable to track locations due to the AWS servers down.

Fortnite

A massive blow to the gaming community came as Fortnite down. The Fortnite server status page reflected major issues, with Fortnite servers down globally. This Epic Games title’s outage is a prime example of the AWS global outage’s massive ripple effect.

Apple TV

Even Apple was not safe from the Amazon outage. Users reported Apple TV not working, and Downdetector showed spikes for the service, linking the Apple outage to the broader AWS issue.

Verizon

Telecommunications giant Verizon also saw reports of service disruptions. While the core network may be separate, many of its online services and apps rely on AWS, leading to internet issues for its customers.

Chime

Financial tech app Chime was another service hit. Users reported the Chime app down, leaving them unable to access their accounts. The Chime outage added to the financial chaos caused by the AWS down event.

McDonald’s App

Even fast-food services were impacted. The McDonald’s App, used for ordering and rewards, was reported as down, a clear sign of how deep the AWS outage cuts across industries.

CollegeBoard

The CollegeBoard website, critical for students, was also listed among the platforms facing intermittent outages during this major outage.

Wordle

A sign of a true internet outage, Wordle was also inaccessible for many. This disruption to the popular daily puzzle, now hosted by the NYT, was part of the larger NYT Games down reports.

PUBG Battlegrounds

PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG) joined the list of games with servers down. The battle royale game experienced massive connectivity problems linked to the AWS crash.

OpenAI

The company behind ChatGPT, OpenAI, was also on the list of affected services, highlighting the AWS outage’s impact on the artificial intelligence sector.

Vimeo

Video-hosting platform Vimeo experienced disruptions, with users unable to upload or stream content during the web outage.

Twitch

The Amazon-owned streaming platform Twitch was, unsurprisingly, also impacted by the Amazon outage, with streamers and viewers reporting widespread issues.

Shopify

E-commerce was dealt a heavy blow as Shopify, the platform underpinning thousands of online stores, reported instability due to the Amazon Web Services outage.

Google Maps

Even rival tech giant Google was not entirely safe. Google Maps was listed among the services experiencing disruptions, demonstrating the complex, interconnected nature of the internet.

Claude (Anthropic)

AI services continued to be a major theme, with Claude (Anthropic) also reporting instability and errors linked back to the AWS issues today.

Cursor

The AI-powered code editor Cursor was also affected, slowing down development for many programmers relying on its cloud-based features.

Dialpad

Business communication platform Dialpad faced issues, another example of the AWS outage disrupting corporate operations.

Microsoft Azure

In a surprising sign of interconnectedness, even rival cloud provider Microsoft Azure was listed as being impacted, likely due to services that have cross-cloud dependencies.

reCAPTCHA

The internet outage became even more frustrating as Google’s reCAPTCHA service failed, locking users out of countless websites that use it for security.

YouTube

Google’s YouTube was another major platform on the list. Viewers reported streaming errors and failures to load the site, all tied back to the global outage.

Gmail

Core Google services like Gmail were also impacted, with users unable to access their email, highlighting the severity of the AWS global outage.

Khan Academy

The free online learning platform Khan Academy was down, further impacting the education sector alongside Canvas.

NPM

The software development world was hit as NPM, the package manager for Node.js, experienced disruptions, halting development pipelines globally.

Dragon Ball

Gaming and entertainment services related to the Dragon Ball franchise were also listed as down, likely affecting related games or streaming platforms.

AT&T

Much like Verizon, AT&T users also reported problems. The network outage reports spiked as online account services and apps failed due to the AWS dependency.

DoorDash

Food delivery service DoorDash was down, leaving customers hungry and drivers without orders as the app failed to connect to the servers down.

Spotify

Music streaming service Spotify was also among the impacted apps, with users unable to stream music or podcasts during the major outage.

Google Cloud

In another sign of cross-cloud issues, Google Cloud itself was listed as being impacted by the AWS outage, a complex problem for tech infrastructure.

Discord

Communication platform Discord experienced failures, silencing communities and gaming groups who rely on the service for voice and text chat.

Google

The main Google search service itself was reported as having issues, which is a rare and significant event, showing the depth of the worldwide internet outage.

Google Meet

Work and school were further disrupted as Google Meet went down, ending virtual meetings and classes abruptly during the AWS crash.

Character.AI

The popular chatbot service Character.AI was another AI platform to go down, disappointing users who were in the middle of conversations.

Rocket League

Another Epic Games title, Rocket League, was also down, adding to the woes of gamers already dealing with the Fortnite down event.

Cloudflare

Internet infrastructure company Cloudflare was reported as having issues. An outage here can have massive ripple effects, as it provides DNS and security for a large portion of the web.

Google Nest

Similar to Ring and Alexa, Google Nest smart home devices were also impacted, leaving users unable to control thermostats, cameras, and speakers.

Pokémon Trading Card Game

The digital Pokémon Trading Card Game was unplayable for many, as its servers were also caught up in the global AWS outage.

FuboTV

The live-TV streaming service FuboTV was down, frustrating sports fans and viewers trying to watch live programming.

HighLevel

The sales and marketing platform HighLevel was reported as down, halting business operations for many of its clients.

Box

Cloud content management and file-sharing service Box was also down, preventing users from accessing their business-critical files.

Etsy

The online marketplace for handmade goods, Etsy, was another e-commerce giant to suffer from the AWS issues, preventing sales and browsing.

Google Drive

Google Drive being down caused massive productivity problems, as users were locked out of their documents, spreadsheets, and other cloud-stored files.

Mailchimp

Email marketing service Mailchimp was also affected, preventing businesses from sending out communications during the AWS outage.

Amazon’s cloud service, which underpins about a third of the entire cloud market, is critical to internet infrastructure. As of Monday afternoon, many apps and services were still recovering. Amazon has not yet released an official statement on the cause of the Amazon Web Services outage, but the event highlights how interconnected technology systems can cause catastrophic impacts across the global economy.
