Spotify’s AI DJ now takes typed requests and speaks Spanish

Users can now interact with the AI DJ in noisy or quiet settings without relying on voice commands.

Spotify has updated its AI-powered DJ feature following a beta launch in May 2024. The company implemented the changes based on user feedback, introducing typed requests and expanded language support to refine user interaction with the tool.

Following the initial beta, which was limited to voice-only commands, Spotify gathered user input to guide improvements. The company has now integrated the ability for users to type their music requests. Spotify identified this addition as the most frequently requested enhancement on social media platforms. This alternative interaction method is designed for use in environments that are public, crowded, or require quiet, where voice commands may not be practical.

The update also extends functionality to Spanish-speaking users. The Spanish-language AI, known as DJ Livi, now accepts both typed and voice-based music requests. This development brings its capabilities to parity with the English-language version of the DJ. Alongside the new input methods, Spotify introduced three personalized prompt suggestions. These prompts are designed to educate users on the DJ’s functions while also providing recommendations for songs and playlists that are algorithmically tailored to their individual listening history.
