Samsung has reportedly canceled its upcoming Galaxy S26 Edge smartphone and will discontinue the “Edge” product line, according to a report from South Korea. The decision follows significantly lower-than-expected sales for the current-generation Galaxy S25 Edge model.
The information originates from a report by South Korean publication Newspim, which was circulated by the user Jukanlosreve on the social media platform X. According to the report, Samsung made the decision to cease the Edge series just five months after its debut. The Galaxy S25 Edge was introduced as a flagship device focused on a thin and light design, a strategy that involved compromises on some core specifications. This product was positioned to pre-empt similar thin-profile devices anticipated from Apple, referred to as the “iPhone Air,” and other Android original equipment manufacturers.

The primary reason cited for the cancellation is the commercial performance of the Galaxy S25 Edge. Global sales data as of August shows the device sold 1.31 million units. In comparison, other models in the same series recorded substantially higher sales figures during the same period. The Galaxy S25 model sold 5.05 million units, while the Galaxy S25 Plus sold 12.18 million units. The report noted that even when accounting for the possibility that the S25 Edge was on the market for a shorter duration, its sales numbers were considered disappointing.
Following this change, Samsung’s flagship S series is expected to revert to its established three-model strategy for the upcoming generation. The Galaxy S26 lineup will reportedly consist of a base model, which may be renamed the Galaxy S26 Pro, along with the Galaxy S26 Plus and the Galaxy S26 Ultra. Production of the current Galaxy S25 Edge will not continue, and the model will be formally discontinued once the existing stock is depleted. The Newspim report also stated that the likelihood of the Edge line making a return is low and that company employees have been notified of this strategic shift.
A detail mentioned in the report is that the development cycle for the Galaxy S26 Edge has already been completed. This status means Samsung possesses the technical capability to release the device as a standalone product at a future date. However, the report clarifies that there are no current plans to do so. This potential for a future release was noted as contradictory to the broader decision to discontinue the product line entirely.
Information regarding the cancellation has been corroborated by two independent leakers known for covering the mobile industry. Leaker Ice Universe stated that an independent source confirmed the news, posting, “Galaxy S26 Edge is definitely gone, 100% correct.” Another leaker, OnLeaks, who is often associated with publishing early device renders and had done so for the S26 Edge, responded to the news with a GIF message that read, “That’s true.”
This development marks a reversal of earlier expectations for Samsung’s 2026 flagship lineup. Reports from the beginning of the year widely suggested that Samsung planned to remove the “Plus” model from its S series, replacing it with an “Edge” flagship. More recently, a report indicated that the company had resumed development on the Galaxy S26 Plus, suggesting a potential four-device lineup including base, Plus, Edge, and Ultra models. This latest report of the Edge’s cancellation resets the lineup back to the traditional three-tier structure. Consumer surveys had also previously indicated a strong preference for a Galaxy S26 Plus model over the Galaxy S26 Edge variant.
