Google’s latest Android Auto update, version 15.2, has disabled the “Quick Controls” widget for many users as spotted by 9to5Google. Reports on Reddit and Google forums detail how the feature became non-functional following the software release, preventing access to its functions.
The Quick Controls widget is located in the bottom bar, providing users with media playback controls or navigation directions while another application is active on the main screen. When Android Auto’s interface shifted to a dashboard design, this bottom bar space was repurposed primarily for app shortcuts. Users, however, retained the ability to enable Quick Controls through a specific toggle within the platform’s settings if they preferred that layout.
Following the release of Android Auto version 15.2, users have found that this settings toggle no longer functions. Activating the option fails to restore the Quick Controls widget to the user interface. This development comes after Google recently deprecated the GameSnacks feature within Android Auto’s beta release track, which indicated a potential shutdown of that service.
While the malfunction has led to discussion about the feature’s deliberate removal, Quick Controls remains operational on certain hardware configurations. The widget continues to function correctly on in-car displays that utilize a horizontal taskbar. However, it fails to appear on systems that are configured with a vertical taskbar, indicating the problem is linked to specific display formats and not a complete removal of the feature across the platform.
