Facebook reintroduces free job postings for US users after years away

Meta is reintroducing a free job listings feature to its Facebook platform exclusively in the United States. The service, which was retired several years ago, has been relaunched with a specific focus on local entry-level, service, and trade work.

The new job postings are accessible through a dedicated tab within the Facebook Marketplace section. According to Meta, these listings may also appear in relevant Facebook groups to reach targeted audiences. Business pages are permitted to create and publish their own job openings directly on the platform. To use the feature, all users must be 18 years of age or older, and every listing is required to adhere to Facebook’s established guidelines.

Specific content restrictions apply to the job postings. Excluded categories include advertisements for adult services and drugs. The guidelines also prohibit listings for in-person childcare positions. This particular rule exists even as some local communities, such as those in the Seattle area, host active Facebook groups dedicated entirely to connecting families with nannies and other childcare providers.

Initial adoption of the feature in cities like Seattle indicates that local businesses are using it as a digital alternative to posting physical “Help Wanted” signs. This usage aligns with the platform’s function as a hub for local connection, similar to services like Nextdoor. The tool is specifically designed to facilitate hiring for roles in the service industry, skilled trades, and entry-level positions within a community.

This launch marks a return for a previously available service. Facebook first introduced job listings in 2017, initially launching in the United States and Canada. The feature’s reach expanded significantly in 2018 to more than 40 countries. However, in 2022, the company scaled the service back, once again restricting it to only the U.S. and Canada before completely shutting down the program in 2023.

After the feature was retired, businesses could still post job openings as paid advertisements. This system faced challenges when some advertisers used targeting tools to exclude specific demographic groups, based on factors such as gender and religion, from seeing employment ads. The new job posting tool directly addresses this by requiring all users to comply with a discrimination policy that prohibits such conduct. The re-launched feature is available starting today for users in the U.S.
