Google’s AI-powered research tool, NotebookLM, has been updated with a new search capability for Google Drive according to XDA. The new feature, located under the “Discover Sources” section, allows users to search for content located inside their Drive files, rather than just by filename.
This integration enables users to enter natural language queries, such as “Slides from Claire” or “Docs about Q4 planning,” to find information within their documents. Once a relevant file is located through the content search, it can be added as a source to the user’s NotebookLM project. The new function enhances NotebookLM’s existing Drive integration, which was previously limited to searching for files by name.
According to Google’s support page, the feature officially supports searching within Google Docs and Google Slides for all files a user owns or has access to. Testing also indicates that the search function is capable of finding content within PDF files stored in Google Drive.
The update was rolled out without a formal announcement from Google and appears to have been added sometime in the past few weeks, based on recent changes to the product’s support documentation.
