Amazon has announced a full refresh of its Kindle Scribe product line, introducing faster hardware, new AI tools, and its first device designed for writing in color. The new models are described as being slimmer and lighter than their predecessors.

The updated series comprises three distinct models. These include a redesigned Scribe equipped with a front light, the Kindle Scribe Colorsoft, and a more economical edition without a front light scheduled for release in early 2026. All three devices share an 11-inch paper-like display and feature reduced parallax, intended to create a more natural writing experience. Performance is improved across the lineup through a new chip and memory upgrades.

The Kindle Scribe Colorsoft introduces a custom display technology that Amazon says provides a softer, eye-friendly color experience than standard LCD screens. This model supports multiple colors for both pens and highlighters and incorporates a new shading tool for artistic use and note-taking. The company states the device maintains weeks of battery life and the distraction-free reading environment characteristic of its Kindle products.

Significant software changes accompany the hardware refresh. The user interface has been updated to include a Quick Notes feature, and the devices now integrate with Google Drive and OneDrive for cloud storage access. An AI-powered notebook has been introduced, capable of searching through a user’s handwriting and generating summaries of notes. Future software updates are planned to expand functionality further.

Amazon has stated that notes will eventually sync with Alexa Plus, enabling conversational queries. New AI-driven reading features are also in development, including spoiler-free plot recaps and a function for asking contextual “Ask this Book” questions. The company’s previous Kindle Colorsoft launch from last year experienced reported screen tint issues.

The updated Kindle Scribe will be available in the U.S. later this year with a starting price of $499.99, while the Scribe Colorsoft will start at $629.99. The edition without a front light will follow in early 2026 for $429.99. Launches in the United Kingdom and Germany are also planned for early next year.
