YouTube has expanded its Premium subscription service to provide a suite of enhanced features beyond ad-free viewing. According to an Android Authority report, these additions are designed to improve user engagement, convenience, and overall content accessibility on the platform.
The service’s established benefits include background play, which allows audio to continue when the app is minimized, and the ability to download videos for offline access. Membership also provides an ad-free experience on the separate YouTube Music streaming platform. Newer perks that are periodically rolled out to subscribers include “afterparties” for exclusive content, enhanced live chat functions, and smart downloads that automatically save recommended content. A co-watch feature integrated with Google Meet also allows for shared viewing sessions among users.
To enhance user convenience, the platform incorporates a “Continue watching” function, enabling users to seamlessly resume videos across different devices. While YouTube offers family sharing options for its Premium service, these plans are now being regulated more strictly. Subscribers have access to a dedicated “Your Premium benefits” page, which presents personalized usage statistics and details all currently available perks, including any exclusive content or early-access features offered to members.
