Taiwan’s industrial production increased 14.4% year-on-year in August, reaching a record index level of 117.4 for the month, according to the Ministry of Economic Affairs. The growth was driven by demand for artificial intelligence and high-performance computing components.
The manufacturing subindex, which accounts for over 90% of total production, climbed 15.5% to an index of 118.2, also a record high for August. For the period from January to August, the overall industrial production index rose 16.6% year-on-year, and manufacturing output was up 17.8%.
Electronics component production surged 31.5% in August. This increase was supported by higher output from several key areas within the semiconductor industry, including wafer foundries, IC designers, IC packaging and testing service providers, as well as IC substrate makers.
