Meta has announced a partnership with Midjourney to enhance its artificial intelligence capabilities, specifically in image and video generation. This collaboration aims to bolster Meta’s ongoing AI superintelligence project, which is focused on developing artificial general intelligence (AGI), and to expand the capabilities of its existing AI tools.

Alexandr Wang, Meta’s Chief AI Officer, conveyed enthusiasm for the partnership. As Wang stated, “We’re proud to announce a partnership with Midjourney, to license their aesthetic technology for our future models and products, bringing beauty to billions.” Wang emphasized that this technical collaboration between the research teams is part of Meta’s approach to working with leading companies whose expertise complements its own.

Midjourney has established itself as an industry leader in visual generation through AI. Its tools have advanced significantly in video generation. The collaboration is expected to improve Meta’s AI generation tools, offering potential advantages for advertisers and marketers using Meta’s AI models to create more visually appealing advertisements.

Midjourney prompts for characters, logos… well everything

Meta reports substantial adoption of its updated video generation features. According to Meta, approximately 2 million advertisers are using these features, with “small and medium-sized businesses seeing strong adoption of image animation in particular.” The integration of Midjourney’s technology could provide a significant upgrade to Meta’s advertising tools, while also expanding the capacity for general users of its generative AI features.

Wang spoke highly of Midjourney’s accomplishments. “We are incredibly impressed by Midjourney,” Wang stated. “They have accomplished true feats of technical and aesthetic excellence, and we are thrilled to be working more closely with them. To ensure Meta is able to deliver the best possible products for people it will require taking an all-of-the-above approach. This means world-class talent, ambitious compute roadmap, and working with the best players across the industry.”

Meta is actively developing its own visual AI models. The company is collaborating with Hollywood filmmakers to develop “Movie Gen,” an AI tool intended to allow users to create short films from text prompts. Meta’s decision to partner with Midjourney reflects its commitment to staying at the forefront of AI development. As Wang indicated, Meta is looking to partner with the best in the business to ensure it remains a leader in the AI field. This partnership may result in enhanced visual generations within Meta’s applications.
