Google works on Quick Share support for iPhones

Quick Share may soon enable Android users to send content to iPhones, though early findings suggest a sign in requirement not needed for Android to Android sharing..

Google is developing compatibility between Android’s Quick Share and iPhones, a feature initially launched in collaboration with Samsung last year. A teardown of the most recent Google Play Services beta application revealed ongoing progress in this area, confirming reports from nearly a year prior indicating the same development.

The integration appears to require users to be signed into their Google account when sharing from an Android device to an iPhone. A prompt within the app indicates this requirement when attempting to share content without being signed in. “So, interestingly, it seems like you’ll need to be signed in to use Quick Share to send something from an Android phone to an iPhone, even if the same requirement doesn’t exist if you Quick Share to another Android device,” according to the initial report.

The rationale behind this specific requirement for iPhone sharing remains unclear. Speculation suggests a potential dependency on the Google app on iOS for facilitating the Quick Share functionality. What’s important to note is that work is still being done on this feature, and since it’s now part-integrated into the latest Google Play Services beta app, we might be approaching its public release.
