SpaceX is preparing for the 10th test flight of its Starship rocket, scheduled to launch from its Texas facility. The launch window is set to open at 7:30 PM Eastern Time (6:30 PM Central Time) on this evening.

The launch will be available via livestream on the SpaceX website and the social media platform X. A webcast is scheduled to begin 30 minutes prior to the launch. SpaceX indicated on Saturday that weather conditions present a concern, with only a 45 percent probability of being favorable for launch. Space.com reports backup launch opportunities are available on August 25 and 26 should delays occur.

This 10th flight follows a series of unsuccessful test flights. Flights 7, 8, and 9 all experienced failures during various stages of testing. Adding to previous setbacks, a Starship vehicle experienced an explosion in June. This incident occurred during preparations for a static fire test involving the vehicle’s six Raptor engines.

The planned mission for Flight 10 includes the deployment of eight dummy Starlink satellites. The flight will also conduct “several experiments focused on enabling Starship’s upper stage to return to the launch site,” according to SpaceX. Despite these experiments, the current flight is not intended to return to the launch site. The test flight is projected to last slightly over an hour, culminating in a splashdown in the Indian Ocean.
