Instagram has introduced a feature enabling creators to link multiple Reels into a cohesive series. As confirmed exclusively to TechCrunch by the Meta-owned social network, this addition mirrors similar functionality already present on TikTok, designed to streamline the discovery and consumption of interconnected content.

The primary function of this feature lies in simplifying the process of presenting narratives or thematic content across several videos. Creators frequently direct audiences to subsequent installments or updates. The new linking mechanism allows for the systematic organization of Reels, allowing viewers to follow a sequence without manual searching or scrolling.

Beyond serialized storytelling, the feature extends to grouping thematically similar videos. For instance, a creator posting a series of fall baking recipes could now aggregate these Reels for enhanced discoverability. This streamlines content organization and improves user experience.

Creators can implement Reel linking during the captioning stage, or retroactively through the overflow menu on previously shared Reels. Once a series is established, a dedicated button appears at the bottom left of the screen, which users can utilize for seamless navigation between linked Reels.

According to Instagram, the new feature addresses substantial user demand, facilitating deeper storytelling and sustained audience engagement. The expectation is that extended watch times will result from this improved engagement. Instagram also anticipates that the feature will contribute to converting casual viewers into dedicated followers.

While incremental in its impact, the update is intended to be a beneficial enhancement for both content creators and their audiences. The feature simplifies content discovery and facilitates structured consumption, improving the overall platform experience.
