AI Studio expands Moises beyond isolation letting musicians create basslines drums and more aligned with their own riffs and progressions

Moises, recognized as Apple’s 2024 iPad App of the Year, has launched AI Studio, a feature designed to generate instrumental parts that complement a user’s initial recording. This update expands the app’s capabilities beyond instrument isolation, offering musicians a tool for collaborative AI-driven composition.

Moises initially debuted in 2020, providing AI-powered instrument isolation capabilities. The application allows users to deconstruct existing songs into individual tracks, enabling focused practice and performance. This functionality quickly gained traction among musicians seeking to isolate specific elements within complex musical arrangements. Apple’s App Store editorial team highlighted Moises’ ability to facilitate focused practice, noting its utility for isolating vocals, guitar solos, and bass lines.

The application’s success was further validated when Apple named Moises the iPad App of the Year. This recognition was followed by a $40 million Series A investment round, led by monashees and Connected Ventures. This investment occurred a month after the Apple award, boosting Moises’ visibility within both the music and AI technology sectors.

AI Studio, Moises’ newly released feature, extends the app’s functionality by generating instrumental parts that correspond to a user’s recording. These generated stems, including bass lines and drum tracks, are designed to automatically align with the sound and style of the original music. The company describes the AI Studio feature as acting like a responsive bandmate, interpreting musical cues and generating complementary instrumental parts. This allows musicians to rapidly experiment with different musical ideas and arrangements, adopting a stems-first approach to AI music generation. Moises posits that the feature can take a simple piano chord progression or guitar riff and generate basslines, drum parts, or other instruments that blend naturally with the recording’s sound, timing, harmony, and style.

According to Moises, its AI models were specifically trained using high-quality recordings of individual instruments. This approach differs from other platforms that reportedly train their models on complete songs. The company asserts that this “context-aware” training methodology provides musicians with greater control over the creative process. This enables users to precisely shape the nuances of their music in accordance with their artistic vision.

AI Studio is accessible to all Moises users, including those with Free, Premium, and Pro subscriptions, via the Web and Desktop applications. Each subscription tier includes a specific monthly allocation of generative credits. Users also have the option to purchase additional credits to extend their usage of the AI Studio feature.
