This is Samsung’s first monitor with 500Hz refresh rate

Previously, OLED technology in gaming monitors did not achieve the refresh rate capabilities observed in IPS monitors, making IPS panels the preferred choice for many users seeking high performance.

Samsung launched its Odyssey OLED G6 gaming monitor on August 13, a device previously announced at CES earlier this year, featuring a 500Hz refresh rate and a 27-inch display for $999.99.

The Odyssey OLED G6 marks a notable development as the inaugural gaming monitor to incorporate a 500Hz refresh rate. Previously, OLED technology in gaming monitors did not achieve the refresh rate capabilities observed in IPS monitors, making IPS panels the preferred choice for many users seeking high performance. This new iteration from Samsung aims to alter that dynamic by offering a refresh rate engineered for demanding gaming scenarios. PCMag noted that discerning a substantial difference beyond the 240Hz threshold might be challenging for most users, particularly in a laptop context.

Beyond its 500Hz refresh rate, the monitor features a QHD resolution of 2,560 x 1440 pixels, adhering to a 16:9 aspect ratio. It boasts a 0.03ms response time and achieves a peak brightness of 1,000 nits. Connectivity options include two HDMI 2.1 ports and one DisplayPort 1.4 port. The Odyssey OLED G6 supports both AMD FreeSync Premium Pro and NVIDIA G-Sync technologies for adaptive synchronization. The monitor integrates a QD-OLED panel that is Pantone Validated and incorporates Samsung’s Glare Free technology, designed to minimize screen reflections.

In addition to the Odyssey OLED G6, Samsung introduced two other monitors: the 37-inch Odyssey G7 and the 40-inch Odyssey G7. The 37-inch Odyssey G7 model features a 4K curved 16:9 VA panel, a 165Hz refresh rate, and a typical brightness of 350 nits, retailing for $899.99. The 40-inch Odyssey G7 model presents an ultra-wide 21:9 aspect ratio, a 180Hz refresh rate, and the same 350 nits typical brightness. This larger model also includes split-screen capabilities for simultaneous gameplay and content management functionalities. Both the 37-inch and 40-inch Odyssey G7 monitors became available for purchase concurrently with the OLED G6, priced at $899.99 and $1,199.99, respectively. These monitors are accessible for purchase through Samsung, Amazon, and Best Buy.
