Google has rolled out updates for its Home application, addressing camera functionality, user interface issues, and overall stability, with version 3.38 released on August 4th following version 3.37 in July.

Version 3.38 of the Google Home app, which began rolling out earlier in August, primarily targets improvements in camera performance. This update enhances the accuracy of online and offline status reporting for Nest and compatible Google Home cameras, aiming to eliminate instances of inaccurate “phantom offline messages” that some users previously encountered. Additionally, the update reduces latency when initiating a live camera view, achieved through improved signaling that accelerates the display of the first frame and contributes to more dependable streaming.

Preceding version 3.38, Google released version 3.37 of the Home app in July. This earlier update introduced camera tile previews, a feature designed to allow users to quickly identify individual cameras using a recent snapshot without requiring the live feed to load. This visual enhancement aimed to streamline camera access within the application.

Version 3.37 also rectified several identified bugs impacting the application’s functionality and user experience. These fixes included resolving issues with accessing the top app bar and settings for certain Google Accounts within the iOS version of the Google Home app. Furthermore, the update corrected instances of text overlapping on Nest Renew and Public Preview pages on iOS devices. It also addressed and resolved app crashes that occurred during startup. Beyond these specific bug fixes, Google implemented general refinements to reduce overall load times and enhance the stability of the application, contributing to a smoother user experience.
