Samsung Display will launch its new foldable display brand, “MONT FLEX,” at the K-Display 2025 industry exhibition, which commences on August 7. The brand name’s individual letters signify key features: “M” for mechanical durability, “O” for opto-mechanically flat, “N” for narrow bezels, and “T” for thin and lightweight design. “Mont,” drawing from the French word for “mountain,” signifies technological peak.

The “M” in MONT FLEX represents innovations such as a shock-resistant structure. This structure enabled displays in the Galaxy Z Fold7 and Z Flip7 to withstand 500,000 fold cycles. The “O” highlights efforts to reduce crease visibility. “N” refers to the implementation of narrow bezels, which expands the screen area. The “T” represents the ongoing industry objective to produce thinner and lighter foldable devices, a goal supported by the display’s reduced thickness and weight.

Jae-Nam Yun, Executive Vice President and Head of Mobile Display Marketing Team at Samsung Display, stated, “Since beginning mass production of foldable OLEDs in 2019, we have continued to drive technological innovation to perfect the product—becoming the first in the industry to apply UTG (Ultra Thin Glass) and LEAD, a polarizer-free OCF technology, to foldables.”

LEAD is an acronym for specific product characteristics: Low power consumption, Eco-friendliness, Augmented brightness, and Designed to be soft and light. OCF, or On-Cell Film, enhances visual performance while also contributing to a thinner and lighter display design.

Jae-Nam Yun added, “Following the launch of a foldable panel with a newly developed ‘shock-resistant structure’ that passed the 500,000-fold durability test, we will continue pushing the boundaries to deliver even more refined foldable products that exceed market expectations.”

Samsung Display’s foldable panels are integrated into the Galaxy Z series. The company also supplies panels to other smartphone manufacturers. Unconfirmed reports indicate Apple has placed an order for panels for an upcoming foldable device.
