Rumors emerged in April regarding MediaTek’s Dimensity 9500, indicating it would feature an Immortalis-Drage GPU designed for reduced power consumption and enhanced ray tracing capabilities. As the anticipated launch approaches, more specific details have surfaced from leakster Ice Universe.

The GPU integrated within the Dimensity 9500 is reported to achieve an energy efficiency improvement exceeding 40% when compared to its predecessor. This GPU, potentially marketed as a Mali-G1-Ultra MC12, is expected to operate at a clock speed of 1.0GHz. The chipset will also incorporate an all-big core CPU configuration, comprising one Cortex-X930 (Travis) core clocked at 3.23GHz, three Alto cores at 3.03GHz, and four Gelas cores running at 2.23GHz.

Performance enhancements extend particularly to ray tracing applications, where the GPU is rumored to demonstrate a 40% increase in peak performance. This significant improvement in ray tracing is projected to enable the GPU to execute compatible games at frame rates of 100 frames per second or higher, according to Ice Universe.

The unveiling of MediaTek’s flagship chip is expected to occur prior to the launch of the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2, placing its debut before late September. Recent advancements in PC game emulation on ARM Mali GPUs have been observed, prompting interest in their performance on the more powerful Dimensity 9500. While this GPU is anticipated for integration into various chipsets, the specific adoption by other manufacturers remains to be seen; Samsung’s potential departure from AMD GPUs and Google’s possible transition to an Imagination GPU for the Tensor G5 are subjects of current speculation.
