Leaked code reveals a huge new safety feature for Pixel Watch

New APK teardown of Android Authority indicate the Pixel Watch 4 may include emergency satellite communications capabilities, potentially featuring hardware requirements and specific Pixel Watch integration.

Recent code within the Satellite Gateway application suggests the Pixel Watch 4 could offer emergency satellite communications. This feature appears limited to Pixel Watch devices, with code referencing “isPixelWatch.” It may route through a compatible Pixel phone, potentially extending to older Pixel Watch models later.

The Pixel Watch 4 is anticipated to introduce several modifications, including a new charger and a Breathing Emergencies tool designed to detect low oxygen levels. Leaks have pointed to Emergency Satellite Communications for the device. Further evidence from an APK teardown supports this feature’s inclusion in Google’s forthcoming smartwatch.

An APK teardown analyzes work-in-progress code to predict future features, though these features are not guaranteed for public release.

Google leaks its own Pixel 10 lineup

The Satellite Gateway app manages Satellite SOS features on Pixel phones. Version 20250707 of this app contains code sections directly referencing satellite communication in a smartwatch context. Specifically, “com.google.android.apps.scone” refers to the Adaptive Connectivity Service app, which guides users to point their device toward a satellite. The presence of “watchui” in the activity further indicates the feature’s integration into a smartwatch.

Obfuscated code for the satellite connectivity capability includes checks such as “isPixelDevice:%s” and “isPixelWatch:%s,” suggesting the feature is likely exclusive to Pixel Watch devices. The current code does not explicitly link emergency satellite communications solely to the Pixel Watch 4. Satellite connectivity typically requires specialized hardware.

Apple Watch devices route Emergency SOS via satellite through a compatible iPhone rather than directly from the smartwatch. A similar approach by Google, using a Pixel phone as an extension for Satellite SOS, could mean the feature becomes available to previous Pixel Watch generations. However, Google may choose to keep the feature exclusive to new hardware initially, offering it to older models through future software updates.
