YouTube is testing a new comments section design, inspired by Reddit, with Premium subscribers on Android and iOS devices until August 14.

Earlier this year, YouTube initiated an initial test of a new threaded comment user interface for a limited group of users across Android and iOS platforms. This preliminary phase allowed the company to gather initial feedback on the functionality. Subsequently, YouTube decided to broaden the scope of this experimental feature.

The threaded comment feature has undergone refinements since its initial deployment. Previously, the system primarily linked a user’s profile picture to a general “X replies” indicator. The current iteration now directly threads the main comment to all subsequent replies, establishing a clear visual connection. Furthermore, replies to these initial replies are also threaded, creating a more hierarchical and organized conversation flow. This enhancement aims to improve readability and user comprehension of comment threads.

The expanded availability of this comment threading experiment is exclusively for YouTube Premium subscribers. The company has specified that this test will conclude on August 14. Consistent with the initial trial, the experiment remains limited to Android and iOS operating systems, excluding other platforms from participation.
