Instagram now streams Spotify songs in Stories

Previously, Stories only linked to Spotify tracks; the new update adds in-app audio playback.

Instagram announced that users can now share Spotify songs to Stories with sound previews, enhancing music integration within the platform.

Previously, when users shared Spotify songs to Instagram Stories, the functionality only provided a direct link to the song on the external streaming platform. This meant that viewers could not listen to any part of the song within the Instagram application itself. The recent update allows viewers to listen to a preview of the shared song directly within the Instagram Story. This integration eliminates the requirement for users to navigate away from the Instagram application to access the audio content, streamlining the music discovery and sharing process.

This development follows the social network’s introduction of a similar feature for Instagram Notes several weeks prior. Instagram Notes now supports direct streaming of songs from Spotify, enabling users to display their current music preferences to their followers in real-time.

These expanded music features contribute to Instagram’s positioning as a platform for music discovery. The enhancement of music-related functionalities also positions Instagram more competitively within the social media landscape, particularly in relation to platforms that have established significant influence in music trending and global music charts.

In addition to the audio integration, Instagram also announced on Monday the rollout of new fonts for Stories and Reels during the current year. The initial introduction includes a limited-time font specifically inspired by the handwriting of singer and songwriter Rosalía.

Users can access secret symbols hand-drawn by Rosalía by typing specific character combinations. Instagram specified that typing characters such as “:-)”, “***”, and “<3” will unlock these unique symbols.
